It's been a while. The Editor's been away and so have we: for a tour of Optus Stadium; partners nights at the Bentley Pines Restaurant and the Burrendah Tavern; and our wine tasting fund raiser at La Vigna (see image below)-not to mention the public holiday on 30 September.

All events were successful and I thank the organisers, Kevin Baruffi (Optus Stadium); Mary Henderson (Bentley Pines); Greg Hamilton (Burrendah Tavern); and Ashley West (La Vigna)

As you know Steve Pusey and I are very involved with the Canning Men's Shed and as reported by Steve, our relocation to. Unit 3, 110-114 Bannister Rd Canning Vale has been successfully completed helped in no small way by the Club's $5,000 of funding.

We are now looking to build our numbers from thirty five (35) back to at least the sixty five (65) we previously had. So if you, your friends or acquaintances would be interested in woodwork, computing, vegetable gardening or just dropping in for a  cuppa, please let us know. We meet at various times every day Monday to Friday. You can reach me on 0412 914 896‬; Steve on 0419 965 565‬; or our Secretary at canningmensshedsecretary@gmail.com.

Johanna has been plenty active since we last reported and in particular sang in a competition at school and won two categories and $60 for her trouble. She continues to enjoy school; has recently taken up surfing; has hosted a fellow exchange student from Kalgoorlie and showed her the sights and sounds of Perth using her wealth of recently acquired knowledge; and continues to be very involved in all the Club's activities.

Johanna and Friends at Optus Stadium.

And of course whenever possible, "Lethal" Leigh Thorp (without the "e") and Glenn "The Joker" Trim have kept us amused ably supported by Ashley West at last weeks meeting when he stood in for Leigh who was absent on leighve in Tasmania! Click here to be tickled pink.

Ashley West also does such valuable work with our wine sales fund raiser and I encourage everyone  to support it and spread the word to family and friends. For the tasting notes Click here and the order form Click here. Last day for orders is 8 November 2019.

At our most recent meeting on Monday 21 October 2019 we had the pleasure of hearing from four out of the six Willetton Senior High School (WSHS) students who attended the Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN) in September 2019. They were interviewed by Josephine Santosa who we sponsored to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) a while ago. There's a short report about that in the right hand column along with a report of the Government House reception for the students selected for this years National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) which Simon attended accompanied by our successful nominees, Talisha Jayarangsri and Monique Mather.

Simon and Stuart Diggins also represented the Club at the Autism Academy for Software and Quality Assurance (AASQA) annual awards night, held at Curtin University. The club has provided financial support to AASQA since its inception four (4) years ago and during that period, 150 ninjas have participated in specialist CoderDojo programmes; eighteen (18) individuals have achieved certification through the International Software Testing Qualification Board; sixteen (16) vocational scholarships have been offered through the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development; thirty (30) internships have been offered by six (6) private businesses; and seventy five (75) undergraduate students have participated in the Curtin Specialist Mentoring Program. Congratulations to Professor Tele Tan, the Director of AASQA and to all of his dedicated staff. Their achievements are impressive.

We were also were very impressed with the work being done by AdoptASchool, an organisation which actively promotes partnerships between sister schools and their communities in Bali and Western Australia, to enrich and support the educational environment for students and educators.

Finalists in a National Level Competition in Jarkata which included English teacher and AdoptaSchool Scholar, Desak Rukmini.

We were very fortunate to have Sherryn Reid and Sheila Hay from AdoptASchool as our guest speakers. To view their excellent and informative presentation Click here; and for more information Click here
